Cornell expels 13% of students found responsible for sexual misconduct, analysis finds
A new analysis found that only 13% of Cornell University's sexual misconduct claims resulted in expulsion or dismissal between 2018 and 2024, with just seven individuals facing such outcomes. Of over 1,200 allegations reported to Cornell's Title IX office during that period, only 162 were investigated. Among those, 53 were cleared, 51 were found responsible, and 26 ended informally, with most responsible parties receiving sanctions rather than expulsion. The report follows a September lawsuit alleging a gang rape at Cornell's Chi Phi house, prompting national scrutiny. Data from 26 New York schools showed similar trends, with under 1% of nearly 10,000 incidents leading to expulsion, raising concerns about institutional accountability.
