Cork GAA needs concerts to reduce stadium debt

Cork GAA chief executive Kevin O'Donovan discussed the challenges of attracting concerts to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. He spoke at a Cork Chamber business breakfast on Tuesday. The venue is seen as "too big for Live at the Marquee, too small for Coldplay." O'Donovan noted that the organization is working hard to address its €30 million stadium debt. He mentioned that bringing concerts to the stadium is difficult due to its size. The team is exploring options like smaller events, using parking spaces, and setting up temporary structures on the pitch. He emphasized that concerts are essential for reducing the stadium's debt. Other events mainly help with daily operations. O'Donovan highlighted that they are in constant contact with concert promoters. However, they face challenges due to the schedules of major artists and the busy sports calendar. On a positive note, Cork GAA has successfully sold out 2,200 premium seats. Additionally, they are using extra seats to meet fan demand. O'Donovan believes they could sell even more seats, thanks to the success of their teams. Cork is set to play Tipperary on April 6 in the Allianz hurling league final, which is already sold out.
