Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has received AUD 814 million from the Australian Government’s Hydrogen Headstart program. This funding is for the Murchison Green Hydrogen project in Western Australia. The Murchison project is one of the largest green hydrogen and ammonia initiatives globally. It aims to produce around 1.8 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, mostly for export to Asian markets. The project will be powered by 6 gigawatts of onshore wind and solar energy. Karsten Uhd Plauborg, a partner at CIP, expressed appreciation for the funding. He noted that it aligns with their goal to build a leading green hydrogen sector in Australia. Plauborg highlighted the importance of such projects in helping countries reduce carbon emissions and achieve energy independence. Shohan Seneviratne, CEO of Murchison Green Hydrogen, emphasized their commitment to creating local jobs and supporting First Nations communities. He thanked the Australian Government and its leaders for their support in making the project possible. CIP has a strong background in renewable energy investments in Australia, including major projects like the Star of the South offshore wind project. They are dedicated to expanding green energy solutions while providing solid returns for their investors.
