Consumer Reports stresses broad-spectrum sunscreen for effective sun protection
Consumer Reports' annual sunscreen ratings reveal significant performance variations, highlighting the importance of broad-spectrum protection to shield against both UVA and UVB rays. Testing over 100 sunscreens, Consumer Reports found discrepancies in SPF ratings and varying levels of UVA protection, even among products from the same brand. Experts emphasize the need for broad-spectrum sunscreens with at least SPF 30 to effectively combat skin cancer and premature aging. Coppertone Water Babies Lotion SPF 50 and Eucerin Advanced Hydration Spray SPF 50 were top performers. Proper application and reapplication every two hours are crucial for optimal protection, regardless of the season.
