Consumer Reports reveals risks in popular dog foods
A new Consumer Reports investigation tested 58 popular dog food brands to assess their safety and nutritional content. While most brands met basic standards, some raw foods contained harmful bacteria, including Listeria, which poses risks to pets and humans. Specifically, Raw Bistro's Free Range Chicken Entree and Viva for Dogs Ground Beef meal were found to have contamination. Both companies responded, stating they have improved testing and that the tested batches are no longer available. Additionally, Pedigree's Complete Nutrition Adult Roasted Chicken meal had nearly five times the safe limit of vitamin D. Pedigree confirmed their product batch met safety standards. Pet owners are advised to consult veterinarians when choosing dog food and to be cautious with raw diets.
