Congress urges consultation on delimitation with states
A senior Congress leader, K Keshava Rao, spoke out against the Indian government's planned delimitation exercise. He said that this important process should only begin after consultations with all state governments. Keshava Rao emphasized the need for increased representation for southern Indian states in Parliament. He mentioned that many states are worried about the delimitation, not just about how many constituencies they have, but about ensuring a stronger voice in governance. He urged that a thorough discussion with state governments must happen before moving forward. Rao also pointed out that southern states have successfully managed population control and suggested that delimitation could be done by considering the entire state as a unit.
