Comelec showcases upgraded voting machines for 2025 elections in Cebu
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) showcased upgraded Automated Counting Machines (ACMs) for the 2025 midterm elections during a public demonstration in Cebu City. The new machines feature a touchscreen interface and a "transmit-to-all" capability for improved transparency. For the first time, a hybridized system will combine automated and manual vote counting. Voters can review their ballots for 15 seconds after insertion, enhancing confidence in the counting process. Comelec plans to use 110,000 ACMs, with additional machines on standby. Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized that the new ACMs are standalone and not reliant on internet connections, reducing hacking risks. The machines are leased from South Korea and will be returned post-elections.
