Colchester station boasts UK's longest train platform at 620 meters but has a notable distinction
Colchester railway station in Essex has the longest train platform in the UK, measuring 620 meters. It serves about 10,500 passengers daily and connects London with eastern regions. However, this length is made up of two joined platforms. The longest unbroken platform is at Gloucester railway station, 168 miles away, measuring 602 meters. Gloucester's platform was extended in 1977 to accommodate two trains simultaneously and is part of ongoing upgrades to improve the station. In contrast, the shortest platform in the UK is at Beauly station in Scotland, measuring just 15 meters. This platform is significantly shorter than any train carriages that stop there.
