Coimbatore Metro Rail project to feature integrated interchanges for better connectivity
The Coimbatore Metro Rail project will include integrated interchanges at key locations like the airport and railway junction. This change aims to enhance connectivity, as discussed in a recent stakeholders meeting led by CMRL Managing Director M.A. Siddique. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 34.8 km metro project is awaiting approval after incorporating additional inputs from the Centre. The project will require land acquisition for construction, with plans to start preliminary tasks in early 2025. Funding for the Coimbatore and Madurai metro projects is expected from the central government. The Madurai project will cover 32 km and cost ₹16,340 crore, with a completion timeline of three years after starting.
