The Tamil Nadu government has started the process to expand Coimbatore International Airport. Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa announced that a tender for construction work has been published. This follows the government transferring acquired lands for the project. Minister Rajaa responded to concerns from AIADMK member S.P. Velumani about delays in the expansion effort. He stated that the current DMK government has taken significant steps to move the project forward. Although plans for the airport expansion began in 2010, the previous AIADMK government did not allocate substantial funding until 2018, providing only ₹572 crore up to 2021. In contrast, Rajaa highlighted that since taking office in 2021, the Chief Minister has allocated ₹1,185 crore, bringing the total to ₹1,515 crore for the project. Velumani emphasized that expanding the airport would enhance the region's industrial profile and attract more IT companies. Electricity Minister V. Senthilbalaji confirmed that land acquisition is complete and has been handed over to the relevant authorities.
