Cleveland Orchestra announces 2025-2026 season details
The Cleveland Orchestra has announced its 2025-2026 season, celebrating its long history and partnership with music director Franz Welser-Möst. This season marks 108 years of the orchestra and 24 years with Welser-Möst at the helm. The performances will take place at the Severance Music Center from September 2025 until May 2026. The season will begin on September 26-27 with Ravel's "Boléro" and Strauss's "Dance of the Seven Veils." This will also include the U.S. premiere of Bernd Richard Deutsch's "Urworte," a work co-commissioned by the Cleveland Orchestra featuring its chorus. Following this, Welser-Möst will conduct Mahler’s "Das Lied von der Erde" and Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with pianist Daniil Trifonov. Throughout the season, audiences can expect a range of classical and modern pieces. This includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23. Notable guest conductors will include Tugan Sokhiev, Dalia Stasevska, and Barbara Hannigan. Each will bring their own unique programs to the orchestra. In December, there will be a performance of Handel's "Messiah." The new year will bring works by composers like Shostakovich and Mendelssohn. Featured artists will include renowned violinist Augustin Hadelich and cellist Alisa Weilerstein. The season will conclude with Wagner's "Götterdämmerung" and the U.S. premiere of Olga Neuwirth’s “Zones of Blue.” Additionally, a world premiere of Jüri Reinvere's "Concerto for Violin, Harp, and Orchestra" is scheduled for May.
