CJI Khanna emphasizes judiciary's direct connection to citizens
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna spoke on Wednesday about the special role of the judiciary in connecting directly with citizens. He made these comments during an event called "Celebrating 75 Years of the Constitution of India," hosted by the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association. CJI Khanna explained that the judiciary is unique because it allows people to express grievances against the state or laws. Unlike legislators and the executive, who are answerable to the public in different ways, the judiciary provides immediate and easy access for citizens to raise concerns. He emphasized that people can approach courts to enforce their constitutional and statutory rights without major barriers. He pointed out that the judiciary is not just about judges. It also includes lawyers, or the bar, which plays an essential role. CJI Khanna praised the SCAORA for launching an e-journal and a new website. He congratulated the association for celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution and recognized advocates for their 50 years of service in the legal profession. Other officials, including Justices B R Gavai, Surya Kant, and Abhay S Oka, also spoke at the event, alongside Attorney General R Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.
