Chinese warships re-enter Australia's Exclusive Economic Zone near Tasmania

Three Chinese warships have re-entered Australia's Exclusive Economic Zone, operating about 160 nautical miles east of Hobart. This follows their recent live-fire drills in the Tasman Sea. The Australian Defence Department is monitoring the situation with New Zealand's military. The task group includes the Jiangkai-class frigate Hengyang, the Renhai-class cruiser Zunyi, and the Fuchi-class replenishment vessel Weishanhu. Australia emphasizes the importance of transparency and safety in military operations in the region. Concerns were raised about the lack of notice given for the live-fire exercises, which disrupted international flights. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that while notice was provided, more advance warning would have been preferable.
