Chinese researchers engineered precise DNA manipulation systems

news-medical.net

Chinese researchers developed Programmable Chromosome Engineering (PCE) systems, enabling precise DNA manipulations from kilobases to megabases in higher organisms, particularly plants. The new PCE systems overcome limitations of the Cre-Lox system by reducing reversible recombination, improving recombinase efficiency, and enabling scarless editing of residual DNA sites. This breakthrough allows for targeted integration, replacement, inversion, deletion, and translocation of large DNA fragments, with applications in crop improvement, such as creating herbicide-resistant rice.
