China's vaccine will boost HPV immunization coverage

China has approved its first domestically developed 9-valent HPV vaccine, potentially increasing immunization coverage and reducing cervical cancer risk. The vaccine, Cecolin 9, developed by Xiamen University and partners, targets nine HPV strains and offers broader protection than previous vaccines. This approval ends a period of foreign dominance in the market. This marks China as the second country, after the United States, to produce a 9-valent HPV vaccine. The WHO aims for 90% of girls to be vaccinated against HPV by 2030.
