China will donate more to the World Health Organization

China will become the World Health Organization's (WHO) primary donor, pledging an additional $500 million over the next five years. This commitment follows the US's planned withdrawal from the WHO in 2026. The announcement was made by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong at the WHO's annual assembly in Geneva. The US, previously the largest donor, decided to leave the organization due to concerns raised by former President Trump regarding the WHO's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The WHO is adjusting its budget, including a 21% spending cut, and seeking increased contributions from member states.
