China targets Canadian agricultural products with new tariffs

China will impose new tariffs on Canadian farm and food products starting March 20. This decision follows Canada's October tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and steel, which included a 100% surtax on EVs. The new tariffs include 100% on Canadian rapeseed oil, oil cakes, and peas, and 25% on pork and aquatic products. This move adds to existing global trade tensions involving the U.S., China, Canada, and Mexico. China's customs authorities stated that Canada's actions disrupted trade and harmed Chinese businesses. Canada had previously imposed tariffs on Chinese goods in response to similar measures from the U.S. and the EU.
