China, Russia links rumored in Signal chat leak
Recent discussions have emerged regarding possible links to China and Russia in a Signal chat leak involving the Trump administration. Right-wing commentator Laura Loomer suggested that the leak could be connected to China, specifically mentioning Alex Wong, a deputy national security advisor. Loomer pointed out that Wong is married to Candice Chiu, a U.S. attorney whose parents worked in Hong Kong. However, her claims lack concrete evidence. This speculation followed a revelation by Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of The Atlantic, who stated that Trump officials had mistakenly added him to a Signal group chat discussing military strategies against the Houthis. Vice President JD Vance and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed Goldberg's comments as false. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz took full responsibility for the error. Loomer highlighted Chiu’s background, stating that she worked under both the Obama and Biden administrations. On another front, some users on social media pointed out that Steve Witkoff, Trump’s Special Envoy, was in Moscow when he joined the Signal group chat. Reports from CBS News confirmed his presence in Russia, and it noted that the country has attempted to compromise Signal in the past. However, it remains unclear if Witkoff was using a government or personal phone at the time of discussion. The authenticity of these claims is still unverified.
