China retaliates with tariffs on Canadian food imports
China will impose new tariffs on Canadian farm and food products starting March 20. This decision follows Canada's October tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and steel, which included a 100% duty on EVs. The new tariffs include a 100% duty on Canadian rapeseed oil, oil cakes, and peas, and a 25% duty on pork and aquatic products. This move adds to existing global trade tensions among the U.S., China, Canada, and Mexico. China's customs authorities stated that Canada's actions disrupted trade and harmed Chinese businesses. The tariffs are part of ongoing disputes over trade practices and subsidies affecting various industries.
