China launches world's largest amphibious assault ship to boost naval capabilities
China has launched the world's largest amphibious assault ship, the Type 076 Sichuan, at a shipyard in Shanghai. This vessel is designed to enhance the People's Liberation Army Navy's long-range operational capabilities and has a full-load displacement of over 40,000 tonnes. The unveiling follows reports of China's new sixth-generation stealth fighter jet, the J-36, which features a tailless design. This jet was seen flying alongside a fifth-generation fighter, indicating advancements in China's military aviation capabilities. China's defense spending has increased by 7.2% to 1.67 trillion yuan for 2024. The country is now the world's largest shipbuilder, with a capacity significantly greater than that of the US.
