China confirms talks on possible Xi-Trump-Putin meeting

skynewsarabia.com (Arabic) —

China confirmed for the first time that it is holding talks on a "historic meeting" between President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in Beijing that China is "in communication with relevant parties regarding a meeting between the heads of state of the three countries." Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the meeting could take place this month on the sidelines of a regional summit in Shenzhen, southern China. Beijing hosts this year's APEC leaders' summit, a 21-member bloc including the US and Russia. Trump is expected to travel to Shenzhen for his third meeting with Xi this year to maintain a fragile trade truce expiring in January, while US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer urged China to take concrete actions on prior commitments.
