Chennai expands vaccine outreach to 5,000 health centres

Chennai's health department is expanding its vaccine outreach to over 5,000 health and wellness centres. This includes 4,848 centres in rural areas and 500 in urban areas, enhancing access to vaccinations. Vaccination sessions will continue at medical college hospitals, government hospitals, and primary health centres. Village health nurses will also provide vaccines at public places every Wednesday. The state aims to maintain high immunization coverage, currently over 98%, by making vaccines more accessible. Each year, 9.5 lakh pregnant women and 8.7 lakh children receive vaccines under the universal immunization program.
