Chennai Corporation removes 305 tonnes of waste from flyovers and subways in major cleaning drive

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) removed 305 tonnes of waste from 71 flyovers and subways on January 11, 2025. The cleaning involved 1,180 workers and 332 machines, also clearing 1,072 unauthorized posters and banners. Key flyovers cleaned included Kathipara, Kodambakkam, and Anna. The operation also identified minor damages and faulty streetlights needing repair. Previously, GCC cleaning efforts removed 38.87 tonnes of waste and 3,954 posters from roads, and 159.16 tonnes from burial grounds. The GCC typically clears about 5,900 tonnes of waste daily.
