Chennai aluminium manufacturer raided for regulatory violations
Chennai: Officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a raid on an aluminium alloy ingot manufacturer located in Sipcot industrial park, Vallam Vadagal, Sriperumbudur, on March 18. The raid was prompted by reports that the company was operating without the required BIS standard mark. The action was taken under Section 28 of the BIS Act, 2016. This followed violations of the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys (Quality Control) Order, 2023. According to this order, it is illegal to manufacture or sell aluminium alloy ingots without an ISI mark and a valid license. During the raid, the firm was found to be in violation of Section 17 of the BIS Act. G. Bhavani, head of the Chennai branch, stated that penalties could include up to two years of imprisonment or fines that could be ten times the value of the goods involved. BIS has also encouraged the public to report any misuse of ISI marks using the BIS Care app or through email.
