Chandigarh MC withdraws pension fund to pay salaries
Chandigarh's municipal corporation has decided to withdraw ₹50 crore from its employees' pension fund to pay overdue salaries for February. This comes as the corporation has not received expected funds from the government, leading to financial difficulties. Typically, salaries are paid by the end of each month, but many employees, including outsourced staff, have not been paid on time. The corporation employs nearly 10,000 personnel and faces additional financial obligations beyond salaries. Previously, the corporation considered taking loans to cover expenses, but high interest rates made this option unfeasible. Officials aim to repay the pension fund once the anticipated government grant is received in April.
