Central Park opens new pool after years of construction

A new, free public pool opens Friday in Central Park, providing relief from a record-breaking heat wave. The Gottesman Pool is located at the park's northern tip. The pool, part of the new Davis Center, replaces the former Lasker Rink & Pool. It's 285 feet long and can accommodate around 1,000 swimmers. The city is also opening all 64 of its other outdoor pools. The $160 million Davis Center, which includes the pool, was funded by the city and private donations. The pool will transform into a turf lawn and ice rink seasonally.
