Celebrities relocate abroad after Trump’s 2024 victory
After Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, several celebrities from Hollywood decided to leave the United States. Many of these stars expressed their dissatisfaction with Trump's leadership as the reason for their moves. Eva Longoria was one of the first to announce her relocation, stating she was "done" with life in "dystopian" America. She moved to Central America and Europe with her family, feeling privileged to escape while most Americans could not. Longoria cited changes in California, her home state, as factors in her decision. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, also left the U.S. for the U.K. They purchased a farmhouse in the countryside and began selling their homes in America. DeGeneres, a known supporter of the Democratic candidate, felt Trump’s win solidified their decision to move. Richard Gere had planned to relocate to Spain prior to the election. He cited personal reasons, wanting to be closer to his wife’s family. Gere has criticized Trump's leadership, calling the U.S. a "dark place." Courtney Love announced her intention to apply for British citizenship while living in the U.K. She described Trump's leadership as frightening and expressed happiness about her new life in London. Rosie O'Donnell revealed she moved to Ireland with her youngest child, indicating Trump's victory as a factor. She plans to apply for Irish citizenship and suggested she might return to the U.S. when the country feels "safe" again. Gabriel Macht and his family also left the U.S. to travel, although he chose to keep their new location private. He has previously criticized Trump but did not specifically cite politics as the reason for their move this time. Many celebrities appear to be taking significant steps in response to the political climate in the U.S., seeking new lives in other countries.
