Natural antibodies in cardiac amyloidosis survivors could lead to potential treatment

TheHealthSite

Researchers from University College London and the Royal Free Hospital have identified natural antibodies in survivors of cardiac amyloidosis that could reverse the condition, which is considered incurable and can lead to heart failure. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that three men with the condition had recovered naturally, with scans and blood tests showing no more deposits of toxic amyloid protein and their hearts returning to a close-to-normal healthy state. The men were found to be producing natural antibodies to ward off the proteins, which could be recreated in a lab and used for treatment in the future.
