Carney recruits Hodgson for Liberal Party election campaign
Mark Carney has chosen Timothy Hodgson, a former Goldman Sachs banker, to run for the Liberal Party in the upcoming election. Hodgson previously worked as an adviser to Carney at the Bank of Canada. To pursue this political opportunity, Hodgson is taking an unpaid leave from his role as chair of Hydro One Ltd. He will be running in the Markham-Thornhill district near Toronto, which is currently held by the Liberals. He has also stepped down as vice chair of the investment committee at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Hodgson worked with Carney at Goldman Sachs and later joined the Bank of Canada as a special adviser in 2010. His role involved advising on monetary policy and financial stability issues. Carney, who became Canada’s Prime Minister on March 14, quickly called a national election just days after winning the Liberal Party leadership. Current polls show a competitive race, with the Liberals appearing to have a chance at forming a majority government.
