Canada's skiers win three bronze medals in Switzerland
Canada's Para alpine skiers won three bronze medals at the FIS World Cup finals in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, on the second day of racing. Alexis Guimond from Gatineau, Quebec, finished third in the men's standing giant slalom with a time of 1:54.26. He has won bronze in this event at the last two Paralympics. Guimond also finished third in the opening giant slalom event in Veysonnaz. He has five medals in six World Cup races this season. "Feels good to be back on the podium again," Guimond said. He is looking forward to competing again on Saturday. Kalle Ericsson from Kimberley, British Columbia, won bronze in the men's vision impaired giant slalom with guide Sierra Smith. They finished in 1:54.94, just 1.6 seconds from gold. After a crash the previous day, Ericsson expressed relief at returning to the podium. The pair has had seven podium finishes this season. "Definitely looking forward to another race tomorrow," Ericsson stated. Mollie Jepsen, 25, from West Vancouver, captured bronze in the women's standing giant slalom with a time of 2:08.47. This was only her second race since recovering from injuries sustained at the Beijing Games in 2022. Jepsen called her performance a huge accomplishment and is focused on regaining her confidence. The next races will include giant slalom events on Saturday and slalom races on Monday and Tuesday.
