California consumer confidence hits lowest level in two and a half years
California's consumer confidence fell 7% in January, reaching a 30-month low. This decline follows three months of decreasing optimism since the October pre-election period, when confidence was at a 14-month high. The state's expectations index dropped 10% in January and is now 30% lower than in October. Californians express significant concern about their financial futures amid economic uncertainties and high living costs. In contrast, nationwide consumer confidence decreased by 5% but remains above California's levels. Other states that supported Trump also saw declines, with only Michigan reporting an increase in confidence for January.
