Calangute taxi owners reject cab aggregator proposal

Taxi owners in Calangute are rejecting a plan by the transport department to bring all taxis under cab aggregators in Goa. They expressed their concerns during a meeting held on Monday. Activist Sudip Tamhankar, who represents the taxi owners, emphasized their preference for self-employment. He mentioned that app-based taxi services have had problems in other countries. Tamhankar called for more open discussions between the transport department and taxi stakeholders before implementing new changes. He also criticized the transport department for not addressing their issues and moving forward with proposals despite their opposition. Various taxi unions, along with rent-a-cab, rent-a-bike, and rickshaw unions, were present at the meeting.
