Cal Poly track star Shelby Daniele dies at 23
Shelby Daniele, a 23-year-old track and field athlete from Cal Poly, has died. The university announced her passing on Wednesday, just months after she earned her master’s degree in agriculture with distinction. Daniele was a key member of the Mustangs team from 2020 to 2024, earning multiple accolades, including six All-Big West honors and two Big West championships. She held records for the fastest indoor 200m and ranked second in the 60m and 100m events in school history. Her teammates and coaches expressed deep sorrow over her loss, remembering her as a caring role model. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
