Bus fire on Pune-Mumbai eway leaves passengers safe

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Thirty passengers on a private luxury bus had a close call on Tuesday morning when the vehicle caught fire on the Pune-Mumbai expressway. The incident occurred near Shirgaon at around 5 a.m. as the bus was traveling toward Mumbai from Kolhapur. The bus driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle from the left side. This caused the bus to veer off the road and crash through the barricades, eventually coming to a stop in a gutter. It is believed the fire may have started due to friction. Fortunately, all passengers managed to exit the bus safely before flames engulfed the vehicle. Fire crews from Vadgaon and Talegaon Dabhade quickly arrived to extinguish the fire, which also spread to dry grass nearby. Tahir Momin, a fireman, noted that the bus did not tip over, which could have made escape difficult for the passengers. The Shirgaon police have filed a case against the 39-year-old driver for rash driving and endangering lives. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident.
