Burundi warns Rwanda as conflict escalates in eastern DR Congo
M23 fighters and Rwandan troops have advanced into eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, capturing two towns near Bukavu. The Congolese government has called for an emergency meeting of regional leaders to address the escalating violence. Burundi has deployed around 10,000 soldiers to support the Congolese army and warned Rwanda of retaliation if attacked. Burundi's President described Rwanda as a "bad neighbour" amid fears of a regional conflict. In Goma, displaced families are fleeing after M23 ordered them to leave camps. Meanwhile, Congolese religious leaders are seeking dialogue with the M23, although Kinshasa has not agreed to direct talks.
