Buford couple drowns off Destin resort in Gulf

A Buford couple drowned in the Gulf of Mexico near a Destin resort, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department. The couple was struggling in the water about 75-100 yards offshore near the SunDestin Beach Resort. A bystander rescued their son, but despite rescue efforts, the parents could not be saved. Yellow warning flags were flying, indicating moderate surf conditions. Authorities have not yet released the couple's identities.
