BuCor freed 2,950 PDLs from April to June
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) released 2,950 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from its facilities between April 1 and June 11. This action aims to address overcrowding and facilitate reintegration. The releases stemmed from acquittals, habeas corpus writs, probation grants, and transfers to other agencies. The releases occurred across various BuCor facilities, including the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW). BuCor is implementing reforms, including reintegration programs and halfway houses, to support released PDLs and reduce recidivism. These initiatives aim to improve public safety and assist individuals in transitioning back into society.
