Broken lift trapped Plymouth seniors for nine weeks

Residents of a Plymouth over-55s apartment block were effectively confined to their homes for nine weeks due to a broken lift, causing significant hardship. The lift at Citadel Court, housing elderly residents, failed in February, leaving many unable to navigate stairs. The extended outage, attributed to sourcing specialized parts, isolated residents and prevented essential activities. The lift was finally repaired on April 23rd, according to Sanctuary Housing, the managing organization. One resident described the situation as worse than the Covid lockdown, highlighting the impact on mobility and social connections.
