Brisbane's smart ticketing system for council buses delayed until 2025
Brisbane's new smart ticketing system for council-owned buses will not launch until 2025, delayed from its original 2023 target. Translink has begun implementing the system on smaller bus operators, allowing tap-on, tap-off payments. The smart ticketing initiative has faced setbacks due to COVID-related supply chain issues. Currently, it is operational on six other bus operators and various transport modes, including trains and ferries. Translink has not specified a launch date in 2025 for the Brisbane City Council buses. The project has seen increased costs, with an additional $22.8 million allocated in the latest state budget.
