Brazilian police allegedly took bribe to release drug truck
Police officers allegedly demanded a R$2 million bribe to release a truck carrying 10 tons of marijuana, according to audio recordings. The recordings detail the negotiation between traffickers and corrupt law enforcement. The intercepted truck, carrying the drugs for the Comando Vermelho, was initially stopped by the Federal Highway Police in 2023. Audio reveals police demanded the bribe, which was ultimately paid to secure the truck's release. Lawyers also facilitated the deal. Several individuals, including police officers and lawyers, were arrested in connection with the bribery and drug trafficking. Most have been released, facing only corruption charges, while others remain in custody.
