Brandon Lockridge makes Padres' Opening Day roster

A minor league outfielder, Brandon Lockridge, has made the San Diego Padres' Opening Day roster. Lockridge was traded by the New York Yankees at the 2024 trade deadline in exchange for reliever Enyel De Los Santos. The Yankees hoped De Los Santos would strengthen their bullpen. However, he struggled during his time with the Yankees, giving up ten runs in just over six innings before being released. Lockridge, who is 27, made his major league debut last September. He had an impressive spring training, hitting .364 with seven stolen bases and a high on-base percentage of .391.
