Blue Ghost lander captures lunar sunrise photo
Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lander successfully touched down on the moon on March 2, 2025, near Mons Latreille. It has begun its operations, including activating NASA science payloads and capturing images of the lunar surface and Earth. The lander shared a stunning photo of a lunar sunrise on March 3, highlighting the contrast between bright sunlight and shadowed craters. Blue Ghost will operate for two weeks, studying lunar composition, geology, and testing drilling technology. This landing follows Blue Ghost's launch on January 15, marking a significant achievement for Firefly Aerospace. Another private lander, Intuitive Machines' Athena, is set to attempt a landing near the lunar south pole on March 6.
