Bihar drops attendance rule for student financial benefits
The Bihar government has eliminated the 75% attendance requirement for students to receive financial benefits from the uniform and cycle scheme in government schools. Education Minister Sunil Kumar announced this change, which allows all 1.8 crore students to benefit regardless of their attendance. Additionally, the state plans to improve school infrastructure. In the next financial year, 29,000 government schools will get computers. The government is also constructing new Kendriya Vidyalayas in 12 locations to enhance access to quality education. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar highlighted the state's increased investment in education. The education budget has surged from Rs 4,400 crore in 2005 to over Rs 60,000 crore today. More funds are also allocated for higher education, supporting new faculty appointments. The government is working towards inclusive education by appointing special educators for students with disabilities. Women's participation in teaching has risen significantly, with 44% of teachers now being women. Literacy rates have improved, with overall literacy reaching 80%.
