Bengali teacher dies evaluating papers in Kolkata
Munmun Laha, a 59-year-old Bengali teacher, died from a cardiac arrest while checking answer scripts in Kolkata on Monday. Laha worked at Anglo Arabic Secondary School and was at Bhawanipur Gujarati School for the ICSE evaluation. Despite having a history of heart problems, she chose to work instead of staying home. Laha arrived at the evaluation center around 8:30 am. By noon, while packing checked papers, she collapsed. She was quickly taken to Shambhunath Pandit Hospital, but unfortunately, she could not be revived. Earlier that morning, she had felt unwell and was kept in an isolation room for a short time. She took medication for her heart condition, but it did not help, and she began to vomit. Some family members questioned the delay in getting her to the hospital. A senior official from the evaluation center expressed sadness over the incident. They mentioned that Laha's health issues were known, and she could have reported her condition. Teachers who evaluate papers face stressful work, which is linked to heart issues. A cardiac surgeon noted that Laha's sudden heart attack was unexpected. He advised that, given her health history, she should have reconsidered working in such a demanding role.
