A man from Bay Point has been sentenced to three years in prison after an incident where he severely injured another man. Elijah Reynante, 28, was involved in a fight that escalated over a domestic dispute. The incident occurred in September 2023. Reynante saw a man pushing a woman to the ground. He confronted the man and challenged him to a fight. During the fight, Reynante began to lose. In response, he picked up a shovel and hit the man in the face, which caused the victim to lose an eyeball. Reynante was charged with mayhem but later agreed to plead no contest to assault. As part of a plea deal, he received a three-year prison sentence. The court gave him credit for nearly two years already served. He was sentenced in November 2023, and a trial that was planned for February was canceled. Currently, Reynante is held at North Kern State Prison and is expected to be released in August 2025, according to prison records.
