The eighth annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival will be held on May 17-18 at the Main Library at Goodwood in Baton Rouge. This free, family-friendly event will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The festival will feature a variety of music, including blues, soul, R&B, gospel, and Christian tunes. The cooking contest is open to participants showcasing regional favorites from Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Categories include meats, vegetables, breads, desserts, and more. Selected finalists in each category will be judged based on taste, presentation, and the story behind their dish. Participants must bring enough food for six people, with entry fees being $20 for pre-registered contestants and $30 for walk-ups if slots are available. Winners will receive prizes, and more details can be found on the festival's website. The pioneer award recipient will be announced later. Past winners include several local business owners known for their contributions to soul food. A lineup of performances is expected, featuring acts like Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor and other local musicians, with more details to be announced. Additionally, there will be a pre-party on May 15, offering a soul food buffet and entertainment for $30.
