Bato dela Rosa criticized for considering ICC evasion

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa faced criticism from the Philippine Palace on March 20. This came after he suggested he might go into hiding due to a potential arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Palace Press Officer Claire Castro commented on Dela Rosa’s statement during a press briefing. She expressed surprise that he, a former chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), would consider evading arrest. Castro stated that it sends a negative message to the public. Castro emphasized the importance of facing legal complaints. "This will not be beneficial to our fellow citizens," she said. She also accused Dela Rosa of abandoning his former boss, Rodrigo Duterte, who is facing charges in The Hague. "Shouldn't friends stand by each other no matter what?" she asked. Dela Rosa led the controversial war on drugs while serving as PNP chief under Duterte. Castro noted that the PNP would have to assist in locating and arresting him if an order is issued.
