Banks in India are open and operating normally today
The planned bank strike for March 24-25, 2025, has been postponed indefinitely. As a result, banks will be open and operating normally today, March 25. There are no bank holidays today according to the Reserve Bank of India’s schedule. The strike was organized by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), which includes nine bank unions. They had announced the strike after unsuccessful talks with the Indian Banks’ Association on March 13. Following discussions with the chief labour commissioner, the decision was made to cancel the strike. Customers are now assured that they can visit their local banks without interruption. The next bank holiday will occur on March 31 for Ramzan-Id. On that date, branches in cities across India, including major ones like Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata, will be closed. The UFBU raised several concerns that led to the call for a strike. These include staff shortages, a need for better representation on bank boards, job security issues, and challenges to bank autonomy due to government interventions. Additionally, they are seeking changes to the gratuity payment rules to better align with government standards.
