Azerbaijan confirms no objections to COP29 climate goal
Azerbaijan's lead negotiator for COP29, Yalchin Rafiyev, stated there were no formal objections to the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) decision made at the climate talks in Baku. The goal sets a target of at least $300 billion annually for climate action by 2035. India and other developing countries expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, claiming it did not reflect their priorities. Rafiyev maintained that all parties had opportunities to engage in discussions and that the final agreement was a significant achievement amid challenging circumstances. Rafiyev emphasized that the NCQG was a collective target, larger than any single country’s efforts. He noted that the negotiations included contributions from both developed and developing nations, with the final goal being an increase from an initial proposal of $250 billion.
