Avian flu suspected in deaths of 200 snow geese in Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Game Commission suspects avian influenza caused the deaths of 200 snow geese found in the Allentown area. The geese were recovered from two locations, with sick birds also observed nearby. Preliminary tests indicated the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the dead geese. Confirmation is pending from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Since the outbreak began in 2022, avian influenza has affected over 129 million birds across the U.S. The virus can spread through wild birds and poses risks to both wild and domestic poultry.
